A crushed American Dream.

After watching “The Immigrant” we shall be reading on immigration in USA in the 1920s. Immigration was one of the aspects were intolerance was at its most visible. In class, we’ll read pages 286 to 289 and then in groups you will work on the following tasks. 

  1. Write a newspaper article criticising the immigrants coming to USA. Refer to Eva’s story to support your argument against immigration. (Lucas – Marco – Fermín)
  2. Write a review about the movie “The Immigrant”. Talk about its historical value. (Agustín – Juan Pablo – Achu)
  3. Imagine you are a journalist in USA in the 1920s. You have the opportunity of interviewing Sacco and Vanzetti who are in prison. Write the interview you imagine you could make. (Conrado – Sofi – Renata)
  4. Imagine you are an American living in USA in the 1920s. You feel strongly against immigration because you believe it may damage American way of life. Design TWO posters aimed at persuading other Americans of the dangers of immigration. (Lucía DC – Lucía H)
  5. Imagine you are an American living in USA in the 1920s. You feel immigration adds to the variety and cultural growth of your country. Design TWO posters aimed at persuading other Americans of the value of immigration. (Valentina – Mora – Olivia)
  6. Imagine you are a journalist in USA in the 1920s. You have the opportunity of interviewing one of the leaders of the KK. Write the interview you imagine you could make. (Bauti – Tomás – Manolo)
  7. Write a newspaper article denouncing the attitudes of the KKK. Look for specific examples of KKK abuse to support your argument against this type of discrimination. (Marina – Nina – Gonzalo)
